NOM’S VIOLENCE AGAINST TAX PAYERS
by Scott Rose
The so-called “National Organization for Marriage,” an anti-gay hate group, has announced plans to launch a hate propaganda video involving New York State clerks who break the law by refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples.
In some ways, the clerks’ illegal anti-gay discrimination is akin to a white waitress refusing to serve black customers. And to be sure, segregation -- aka racial apartheid -- does share many monstrous features with the sexual orientation apartheid that prevails in the United States today.
However, here is why the clerks’ illegal discriminatory behavior is worse than that of a white supremacist waitress refusing to serve black diners. A restaurant customer refused service has not yet paid for the service. By contrast, when a couple arrives at a clerk’s office to apply for a marriage license, their taxes have already been paying the clerk’s salary and the office maintenance. The clerk is refusing the citizens a service that the citizens have already paid for.
Some New York jurisdictions with heterosupremacist, theocRAT clerks have already announced that they will hire extra personnel so the official clerk does not have to issue marriage licenses. One of the troubles with that arrangement is, that because of it, tax payers are being forced to pay extra money -- for the very same work to be performed -- as a result of bigoted clerks’ refusal to comply with the law.
We must not forget that a lesbian or gay firefighter does not have the option not to save a political gay-basher’s life in the event of fire. If a lesbian firefighter will go through flames to save a political gay-basher’s life, then a political gay-bashing clerk can either issue marriage licenses to gay couples or find a different line of work.
In politicking in favor of the gay-bashing clerks, the National Organization for Marriage is committing an egregious economic violence against all New York State tax payers. It is not acceptable, in a time when public schools are being defunded because of the economic crisis, for additional tax resources to be squandered on the hateful whims of gay-bashing clerks. And, NOM is not only promoting an unnecessary and hateful expense to tax payers; it is doing so as part of its organization’s fund-raising drives, begging its fellow political gay-bashers for anti-gay blood money. At this link, you may view a preacher at a NOM-sponsored anti-gay hate rally yelling that God says that homosexuals are “worthy to death.” New York tax payers had to pay for the policing of a rally where NOM, a hate group, approved of a preacher saying that homosexuals are “worthy to death.” Was that really a good, sane use of tax dollars? It should be noted that for its hate rally, NOM had to be issued a permit by a government clerk.
Being a hate group, the so-called “National Organization for Marriage” does not hesitate to squander tax payers’ money in other additional ways. This reporter plans at a later date to make an accurate calculation of the costs to the tax payer of NOM’s long-dragged-out legal challenges to established laws regarding political donor identity disclosure. The courts are being tied up with NOM’s pernicious hate group activities – and that tying up of the courts should be considered another of NOM’s acts of economic violence against tax payers.
NOM’s close colleague in political gay-bashing, the Catholic Church, furthermore, creates hidden costs to tax payers. When, for example, a Church child rape victim needs government assistance for mental health care, NOM, in being part of the Church’s political protection mechanism, is again doing an economic violence against tax payers. That is not to mention that a Church child rape victim, typically, -- because of the mental and physical trauma -- is not able to make the best use of the public education being provided to her. Go here to learn more about the so-called “National Organization for Marriage’s” child rape problem. And then go here to sign a petition asking President Obama to tell Archbishop Timothy Dolan to stop obstructing justice for the Church’s child rape victims.
Now, go here to tell New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo that you object to tax payers’ money being used to subsidize illegal discrimination. Note that you can e-mail the Governor if you live outside the state. Here is a suggested message, which you should feel free to copy, and to send to additional elected officials too. Dear Governor Cuomo: This is to express dismay over the economic violence against tax payers now being promoted by the so-called “National Organization for Marriage,” an anti-gay hate group. NOM is promoting the idea that although anti-gay clerks are breaking the law by refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, tax payers should have to fund the hiring of additional office personnel in order for marriage licenses to be issued to gay couples. Note, please, that this is not NOM’s only economic violence against tax payers. In many jurisdictions, NOM at great tax payer expense is tying up the courts with wasteful challenges to long-established donor disclosure laws. Tax-payer funds, moreover, had to be devoted to a NOM-sponsored anti-gay hate rally in the Bronx in May, during which a preacher yelled at a mob of bigots that homosexuals are “worthy to death.” In 21st century America, tax payers should not be funding hate groups. Your continued support for the best possible uses of limited tax payer resources will be greatly appreciated. Please do whatever you can to stop the so-called “National Organization for Marriage’s” economic violence against tax payers.
