HOW TO TELL NEW YORK STATE SENATORS YOU WANT LGBT EQUALITY NOW

A recently-started Facebook page,It Scares Me To Listen to Anti-Equality New York Politicians Because . . .  lets gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and their supporters tell New York State Senators how they feel when politicians 1) spew anti-gay hate and/or; 2) fail to support equality legislation.

This page has already attracted comments from some prominent progressives.

Fred Plotkin, a best-selling author and world-recognized authority on Italy, said “New York has been in the forefront of tolerance and respect for all. That, plus its unmatched arts scene and vibrant diversity, is why we live here. Otherwise there are plenty of places we can go to wallow in hatred and ignorance.”

Award-winning Holocaust scholar and author Cara De Silva said “It does scare me to listen to anti-equality talk here in my beloved hometown (or anywhere), but it does much more than scare me. It infuriates me on behalf of friends, other good-hearted and like-minded New Yorkers, and my imperfect, but great city.”

The page is not only for New Yorkers.  Florida anti-gay bullying target teenager  Luke Herbert, for example, has expressed fear that if a Ruben Diaz endorses statements that gays are “worthy to death,” maybe New York isn’t really a safe haven for LGBT Americans he had previously believed.  Luke posted his anti-bullying video to the page, and his mother Dorene Davenport, a New York native, separately said this about irrational anti-LGBT hate and discrimination “We need to stop this and make a difference so there is never ever another teenage suicide again!!!!”

Our aim over the next few days is to fill this Facebook page up with statements that will then be brought to the attention of the media and every member of the New York State Senate.  Please help to spread the word!  Everyone who is for LGBT equality should LIKE and comment on It Scares Me to Listen to Anti-Equality New York Politicians Because...
